Makarasana


Crocodile Pose
This posture resembles a crocodile resting in the ocean. The crocodile keeps its neck and face above the water. The same shape is seen here.
1. Lift the head and chest. 2. Bend the arms at the elbows. 3. Rest the elbows on the ground. 4. Form a cup shape with both hands. Place the head on the heels of the hands. 5. An alternative process is to cross the arms in the prone position. 6. Keep each palm on the opposite shoulder. 7. Place the head between the palms. 8. Breathe normally.
Procedure:
In the prone position place your both hands crossed around head or rest your forehead on it, relax all the muscles, continue normal breathing.
1. Bring the arms forward and fold them. Then place the forehead on the folded elbows and relax the neck.
2. Spread the legs and keep them at a distance of a foot or so, with the heels inside and the toes outside. Then relax the legs.
3. Keep the whole body relaxed. Try to touch as many parts of the body to the floor as possible. Keep the breathing normal and the head in a positoin which is comfortable.
Benefits:
Crocodile Pose is a restorative pose with several benefits: Lengthens the spine gently. Release lower back compression. Relaxes the body. Calms the mind.Therapeutic for high blood pressure. Helps relieve fatigue.
Precautions:
In this asana the whole body is relaxed. As the body is relaxed one is inclined to sleep which one should strictly avoid.
Position:
This asana being for relaxation, the muscles of the body should not be strained. So attempt should be made to relax all muscles and the joints of the body.
